Welcome to the Gifts For Heather Appeal!

On the 15th July 2011 a small band of hardy travellers will set out on a journey from Land's End to John O'Groats - and back again ! Over the course of two weeks they will be using nothing but registered bus routes. There are three reasons they are doing the trip :

  1. To raise as much money as possible for Oxfam - they are aiming for at least £5000 - more if possible !
  2. To raise awareness of just what is possible when using bus services
  3. In memory of Heather Stedall, who died in hospital in June 2009.

This website will tell you more about why they are doing it, who they are, where they are going, and during the trip will allow you to follow their progress, and interact with them via their blog. You will also be able to make a donation by clicking on the "donation" link above.

On the 11th June 2009, my sister, Heather Stedall, died in hospital from septicemia and related problems - she was only 30.

Rather than flowers at her funeral, we suggested people buy an "Unwrapped" gift from Oxfam (see here (http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/oxfam-unwrapped) for more details of the wonderful things that can be purchased for those truly in need).

Due to Heather's long term health problems, she was never able to work, so when she died she did not leave much money, but with what she had, we purchased two of the larger "Unwrapped" gifts - Renovating / building a school class room in an African school and stocking a school library in Africa. Those of you who knew Heather will remember she was one for her books!

In the summer of 2011, I will be organising a fund-raising trip from Lands End to John o' Groats and back - all by local bus - and all in two weeks ! The aim of the trip is to raise at least another £2,150 to buy another classroom renovation and another school library restock in Heather's memory. I am hoping we will actually be able to do far more than this !

Over the next couple of months this website will be built up to give details of how you can join in the fund raising effort, as well as sections remembering Heather and giving more details about the Oxfam "Unwrapped" gifts.

This trip is completed with thanks to the many sponsors
