Introduction

On the 11th June 2009, my sister, Heather Stedall, died in hospital from septicaemia caused by neglect on the part of the hospital staff - she was only 30.

Rather than flowers at her funeral, we suggested people buy an "Unwrapped" gift from Oxfam (see here) for more details of the wonderful things that can be purchased for those truly in need).

Due to Heather's long term health problems, she was never able to work, so when she died she did not leave much money, but with what she had, we purchased two of the larger "Unwrapped" gifts - Renovating / building a school class room in an African school and stocking a school library in Africa. Those of you who knew Heather will remember she was one for her books!

In the July 2011, I will be organising a fund-raising trip from Lands End to John o' Groats and back - all by local bus - and all in two weeks ! We have already raised over £2200, and therefore we have already reached our initial target - to fund another classroom and library. We are now aiming to raise at least another £3000 to help fund a major education project Oxfam is running in Mali, one of Africa's poorest countries. To find out more about this project please visit https://www.oxfam.org.uk/donate/connects/pages/mali-education.html

Using the links above you will be able to find out more about the people taking part in the fundraising trip, find out more about Heather, find out more about how the trip came to be, and where and when we will be. You will also be able to donate (please do !), and you will also find links to both Oxfam, and also those organisations who have kindly helped make this trip possible.

If you want to join in with us of the trip, let us know - we look forward to seeing you. Whilst there is no minimum fundraising target you have to raise to join in the trip, a personal donation would be most welcome, and if you can get friends, family, neighbours and colleagues at work to give too (even just a £ or two will make a difference!) then please spread the word.
